This handmade Japanese brush has come to me via many detours and with the help of Kikuko Murakami.

It needs to be said that my beavertail shaving brush is one of the oldest & dearest utensils in my house.

This is a sort of nephew of that brush. I use it for new large brushwork. I am reluctant to use

the word “calligraphy” for this new work, because I can never ever hope to stand in the shadow

of this great tradition.
